Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center

The Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center is recognized by the National Parkinson Foundation as one of its worldwide Centers of Excellence. Northwestern Memorial Hospital Movement Disorder Surgery Program brings together the advanced resources of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University School of Medicine, one of the nation's premier institutions for research into movement disorders. The school was recently named by the National Institutes of Health as one of only 12 centers in the country to receive the prestigious Morris K. Udall Center grant for Parkinson's research. Patients and families who come to the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders center receive a multidisciplinary approach to their care, including:

  • Assessment by a movement disorders neurologist
  • Comprehensive pharmacological therapy
  • Neurosurgical evaluations for deep brain stimulation (DBS)
  • The opportunity to participate in clinical research trials

Our program focuses on promoting health and providing education and support for patients, caregivers, family members, healthcare providers and the community. We conduct pre-clinical and clinical research in order to extend the knowledge and treatment of movement disorders.
